Update 1: Allegheny Cemetery has denied us the permission to place stones for the seven unmarked Confederate soldiers in their cemetery. They state that since the map for the section has been lost and the exact burial spots are not known, we can't place the stones. This has come as a shock to us, and we are developing a response and/or alternate plan. Update 2: The JROTC events will be held in Erie, PA on 9 May 2012 and in Uniontown, PA on 30 Apr 2012. We...Read Full Post »

Our Camp decided to sponsor two local JROTC cadet awards at two western PA high schools. These events will take place in late April and early May. We also are waiting to hear a response from Allegheny Cemetery on our cemetery project. Additionally, the camp is looking for a new location to hold our meetings. We hope to encourage better attendance at our meetings with a new location. Suggestions are welcome. (5 members attended the meeting: Chris, Greg, Ron,...Read Full Post »

Joe and Bugs attended Doo Dah Days at Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA on 9 Jul 2011. Many people stopped to talk with us, and it is hoped that a few new members have been found. Lots of SCV coins and fake Confederate money were handed out - even to adults. The brochures that we made up recently about the Confederate dead in Allegheny Cemetery were a big hit, too. Many attendees took them. The Voices of the Confederacy was there, too, and the VOC provided fla...Read Full Post »

Chris and Joe attended the Division meeting in Gettysburg, PA on 11 June 2001. 12 people attended the meeting. The total Division membership is 85. The JEB Stuart Camp has recovered nicely from difficult times. Time was spent discussing accurate history of the Civil War. After the meeting Chris and Joe briefly toured the Battlefield.

Plans were made for two Camp members to join the Voices of the Confederacy at "Doo Dah Days" at Allegheny Cemetery on 9 July 2011. It is hoped that a little positive publicity for the Camp can be generated by talking to people at the event and passing out promotional SCV coins and facts about the Confederacy. Plans were made for two members to attend the Division meeting on 11 Jun 2011. It was also pointed out that Allegheny Cemetery is still assessing our efforts to obtain ...Read Full Post »

Today (21 May 2011) was a great day for our Camp! We had a great, although informal, Memorial Day remembrance of the Confedrate dead in Allegheny Cemetery. Five Camp members were present (Bugs, Chris (and his wife), Ron, Greg, and Joe), as was a member of the Voices of the Confederacy, who brought many large confederate flags to place by the grave markers. Many pictures were taken, and we placed small Confederate Battle flags and a lone carnation next to the grave marke...Read Full Post »

No date was set for flag placement since not enough members were present at the meeting. An email will be sent to all members with the suggested dates of 14, 15, 21, or 22 of May. It was decided to place Battle Flags of the same size that we did last year. We also plan to bring large flags and the camp banner to be able to take a decent Camp photo. Also, all signatures have been obtained and will be presented to Allegheny Cemetery when we pla...Read Full Post »

We discussed possible plans for enhancing our memorial day service with some sort of added ceremonial service. The day of the memorial day service will be decided at the next meeting.
