Today (21 May 2011) was a great day for our Camp! We had a great, although informal, Memorial Day remembrance of the Confedrate dead in Allegheny Cemetery. Five Camp members were present (Bugs, Chris (and his wife), Ron, Greg, and Joe), as was a member of the Voices of the Confederacy, who brought many large confederate flags to place by the grave markers. Many pictures were taken, and we placed small Confederate Battle flags and a lone carnation next to the grave markers of all 7 Confederates in Section 33. A flag was also placed on the grave of John Morris Morgan in Section 11. As luck would have it, several people affiliated with the cemetery were there, and two others who were doing research stumbled upon us, as well. At least 12 were there! See the PHOTOS page for pics.
After we finished placing the flags, we presented our letter to the Cemetery staff with our request to obtain markers for the 7 soldiers who do not yet have markers. We are hopeful that the cemetery will assist us quickly in our efforts.
